Antimicrobial Activity of Zirconium Oxide Nanoparticles Prepared by the Sol-Gel Method

Abstract The antimicrobial activity of zirconium oxide (ZrO 2 ) nanoparticles on E.coli and S. aureus bacterial strains were investigated. sol-gel method was used to fabricate for two molar ratios (0.5 M 1 M). crystallinity morphology the product confirmed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) show that prepared has a crystalline nature. FESEM analysis indicates NPs less than 20 nm highly uniformed in size, having spherical morphology. FTIR confirms production reactive oxygen species (R.O.S.) oxide. At doses equivalent conventional antibiotics, ZrO shown exhibit antibacterial action against gram-positive ( gram-negative bacteria E. coli ). synthesized demonstrated inhibitive bacteria“ gram - ve by attracting negatively charged E.coli, positively ions attack cell wall. Results suggest multifunctional may be successful candidate health care system.
